Refugee centre's to remain closed as fewer refugees enter The Netherlands

About 40 new refugee centres were going to open in 2016 however, approximately 24 of the planned refugee centres are to remain closed as fewer refugees are entering the Netherlands. The 40 refugee centres were supposed to provide shelter to 20,000 refugees. RTL news mentioned last month that 40% of the refugee shelters and emergency shelters are empty. In July 2016, 2260 refugees came to the Netherlands while in July 2015, 4789 refugee's entered the Netherlands. In the next few weeks the COA has decided to close 15 emergency locations due to the lack of new arrivals. To read more on this news article click here

Empty refugee centre's cost €240,000 a day

The COA has recently reported that there is place for 53,676 refugees however only 32,900 seats are taken. This means that almost 20,000 beds are empty. In average a bed costs €12 euros a day, this means that everyday the COA has to pay €240,000 every day out of their own pocket. To read more on this news article click here

Netherlands has taken 674 refugees through the EU-Akoord

This year all countries of the European Union have agreed to transfer a total of 160,000 refugees in two years from Greece and Italy. Last month the Netherlands has taken 108 refugees from Greece and Italy. In total this year the Netherlands has transferred 674 refugees from Greece and Italy combined.
